Using Scan Only Mode in SimpleTix Organizer App
Learn how to set up and use Scan Only Mode in the SimpleTix Organizer app for volunteers and staff without SimpleTix accounts.
The Easy Entry mobile application is being deprecated. Until now, admission staff and volunteers without a SimpleTix account used our Easy Entry mobile app to scan tickets and admit attendees. Now, staff and volunteers without a SimpleTix account can scan tickets and admit attendees using Scan Only Mode in our SimpleTix Organizer app.
Using Scan Only Mode in SimpleTix Organizer App
What is Scan Only Mode?
Events and venues often need staff members to help scan tickets for admission. When all staff need to do is scan QR codes to validate tickets, it usually doesn’t make sense to create a full SimpleTix account for each person. Scan Only Mode solves this problem by allowing admission staff to connect to your SimpleTix account using your unique SimpleTix Scan Key, enabling them to scan tickets without requiring individual SimpleTix accounts.
User Roles and Permissions
For staff who need more advanced features, consider creating accounts with appropriate roles instead of using Scan Only Mode
Where to Find Your SimpleTix Scan Key
Your SimpleTix Scan Key is a secure and private code that connects admission staff to your SimpleTix domain.
Access User & Roles Settings
Account owners and administrators can find the SimpleTix Scan Key by logging into the SimpleTix Manager Portal and navigating to Settings → User & Roles
Locate Your Scan Key
In the User & Roles section, you’ll find your unique SimpleTix Scan Key
Generate a New Key (Optional)
If needed, you can click the Generate New Key button to create a new Scan Key
Generating a new key will invalidate the previous key, requiring all staff using Scan Only Mode to update their settings
Setting Up Scan Only Mode for Staff and Volunteers
Provide these simple instructions to your staff members who will be scanning tickets:
Download the SimpleTix Organizer App
- iOS: App Store
- Android: Google Play
Access Scan Only Mode
Launch the SimpleTix Organizer app and tap the Scan Only Mode button on the login page
Enter Scan Key
On the Settings page, enter the SimpleTix Scan Key provided by the account owner or administrator
Start Scanning
Tap Launch Scan Only Mode to begin scanning tickets. Your camera will activate, allowing you to scan QR codes on tickets
Features and Limitations of Scan Only Mode
When training staff, make sure they understand the capabilities and limitations of Scan Only Mode
What Scan Only Mode Can Do:
- Scan ticket QR codes to validate and admit attendees
- Show basic ticket status (valid/invalid)
- Work with any event on your SimpleTix domain
What Scan Only Mode Cannot Do:
- Sell tickets
- Process refunds
- Access detailed attendee information
- Edit orders
- View reports or analytics
Transitioning from Easy Entry App
If you’ve been using the Easy Entry app, here’s what you need to know about transitioning to Scan Only Mode:
The Easy Entry application is being sunset and will no longer be available in app stores. While existing installations may continue to function, we recommend transitioning to Scan Only Mode in the SimpleTix Organizer app for continued support and functionality.

- Same Core Functionality: Both options provide basic ticket scanning without requiring a SimpleTix account
- Better Platform Support: Scan Only Mode is available on both iOS and Android
- Improved Performance: Benefits from the more robust architecture of the SimpleTix Organizer app
- Future Enhancements: Will receive updates along with the main Organizer app
