What is Multi-Factor Authentication?

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security to your SimpleTix account by requiring two forms of verification when you log in:
  1. Your password
  2. A time-based code from your authenticator app
This helps protect your account even if your password is compromised.

1. Prerequisites

Before setting up MFA, you’ll need:
  • An authenticator app installed on your mobile device (such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy, 1Password, or similar)
  • Access to your SimpleTix account

2. Enabling Multi-Factor Authentication

  1. Log in to the Manager Portal
  2. In the top rail, click on on your user logo and then click Your Profile
  3. Under MFA Set-up change the “Enable MFA” preference from “No” to “Authenticator App”
  4. Enter your password under “Current Password”
  5. Click “Save”

3. Setting Up Your Authenticator App

Once you initiate MFA setup, you’ll see a QR code on your screen:
  1. Open your authenticator app on your mobile device
  2. Select the option to add a new account (usually a ”+” or “Add” button)
  3. Choose to scan a QR code
  4. Point your phone’s camera at the QR code displayed on your SimpleTix screen
  5. Your authenticator app will automatically add your SimpleTix account
If you can’t scan the QR code, most authenticator apps allow you to manually enter a setup key. This can be found by clicking “Copy to Clipboard” above the QR code in SimpleTix.

4. Verifying Your Setup

  1. After scanning the QR code, your authenticator app will begin generating 6-digit codes that refresh every 30 seconds
  2. Enter the current 6-digit code from your authenticator app into the verification field on SimpleTix
  3. Click Verify

5. Logging In with MFA

Once MFA is enabled, your login process will include an additional step:
  1. Enter your email and password as usual
  2. You’ll be prompted to enter a verification code
  3. Open your authenticator app and find your SimpleTix account
  4. Enter the current 6-digit code displayed in the app
  5. Click Verify to complete login
Verification codes expire after 30 seconds. If a code doesn’t work, wait for the next code to generate and try again.

6. Troubleshooting

Code not working?
  • Wait for the next code to generate if the current one is expiring soon
  • Double-check you’re entering the code for the correct account in your authenticator app
Lost access to your authenticator app? Need to switch to a new device?
  • You’ll need to disable MFA on your account first, then re-enable it with your new device
  • Alternatively, transfer your authenticator app data to your new device using your app’s built-in backup/transfer feature

7. Disabling Multi-Factor Authentication

If you need to disable MFA:
  1. Log in to the Manager Portal
  2. In the top rail, click on on your user logo and then click Your Profile
  3. Under MFA Set-up change the “Enable MFA” preference from “Authenticator App” to “No”
  4. Enter your password under “Current Password”
  5. Click “Save”
Disabling MFA will reduce your account security. Only disable it if absolutely necessary, and consider re-enabling it as soon as possible.

Best Practices

  • Use a reliable authenticator app: Choose a well-established app from a trusted provider
  • Enable MFA on all administrator accounts: Protect accounts with elevated permissions
  • Keep your authenticator app updated: Regular updates ensure security and compatibility
  • Don’t share codes: Never share verification codes with anyone, including SimpleTix support
Consider using an authenticator app that offers cloud backup to make device transfers easier while maintaining security.
