# Managing Promo Codes in SimpleTix

> Learn how to create, manage, and report on promo codes for events using SimpleTix's management dashboard.

## Overview

Promo codes can be:

* **Single Use** (one code for many customers or unique code for each buyer),
* **Bulk Generated** (hundreds or thousands of random codes),
* **Imported** (via CSV),
* **Exported** (for record-keeping or analysis).

Each code can be tied to a specific event or ticket type, with configurable redemption limits, expiration dates, and discount styles (percentage or flat rate).

## Creating Promo Codes

### Creating a Single Promo Code

1. **Navigate to the Global Promo Codes Page**

   * Log in to the [Manager Portal](https://manager.simpletix.com).
   * Click **Marketing** in the top rail and then select Promo Codes.
   * Alternatively, go to [manager.simpletix.com/promote/promocode](https://manager.simpletix.com/promote/promocode).

   **Navigate to an Event-Specific Promo Codes Center**

   * Log in to the [Manager Portal](https://manager.simpletix.com).
   * Select your event from **Events** then click **Promo Code** (left-hand menu).
2. **Create New Code**
   * Click **Create Promo Code**.
   * Provide a promo code name (e.g., “FALLSALE20”).
   * Set optional parameters:
     * **Category** (to organize and view codes later),
     * **Redemption limits** (number of times the code can be used),
     * **Active period** (start/expiration date).
   * Click **Next** (or **Continue**).
3. **Configure Discount Details**
   * **Discount Type**: Choose **percentage** or **flat amount**.
   * **Eligible Tickets**: Select which tickets (or event times) the code applies to.
   * **Save** to finalize.

### Managing Promo Code Categories

Categories help you organize your promo codes. You can:

* **Rename a category**: Click on the category name to edit its title.
* **Delete a category**: Remove categories you no longer need. Codes within a deleted category will become uncategorized but are not deleted.

> **Note**: On the event specific promo code page you can generate a special link to your event page that will auto apply the promo code. Click on the promo code you want the link for and then copy the "Discount Link".

### Bulk Creating Promo Codes

Bulk code generation is available at both the **event level** and the **site level** (global promo codes page).

1. **Generate Multiple Codes**
   * From your event’s **Promo Codes** page or the global [Promo Codes](https://manager.simpletix.com/promote/promocode) page, click **More** → **Generate Bulk Codes**.
   * Indicate how many codes to create (e.g., 100 unique codes).
   * **Use a template:** You can select an existing promo code as a template to copy its settings, then generate new codes based on that configuration.
2. **Set Code Parameters**
   * **Uses per Code** (e.g., unlimited, limited by number of orders, or limited by number of tickets).
   * **Tickets per Order Limit** (optional).
   * **Discount Type** (flat or percentage) and **Expiration** settings.
3. **Confirm & Download**
   * Click **Create Promo Code**.
   * Download or view the newly generated codes.

## Managing & Reporting

### Bulk Editing & Deleting Codes

You can mass-select promo codes to delete them in bulk:

1. From the **Promo Codes** page (event-level or global), select multiple codes using the checkboxes.
2. Use the bulk action options to delete the selected codes.

This is especially useful for cleaning up expired or unused codes after a promotion ends.

***

### Viewing & Filtering Codes

1. **Event-Specific View**
   * From **Events**, select your event, then go to **Promo Codes**.
   * This displays all codes tied to that event, including redemption stats and discount links.
2. **Global Promo Code View**
   * Visit [manager.simpletix.com/promote/promocode](https://manager.simpletix.com/promote/promocode) **without** selecting an event.
   * All codes across all events are displayed (useful for multi-event management).

> **Tip**: Use the search/filter tools to locate specific codes or categories.

***

### Exporting Codes

* While on the **Promo Codes** page, click **More** → **Export List**.
* A `.csv` file with all current codes (and basic info like redemption counts) is generated — ideal for offline analysis.

***

### Importing Codes

1. **Download CSV Template**
   * From **Promo Codes**, click **More** → **Import List** → **Download Template**.
2. **Fill in Code Data**
   * Each code belongs on its own row.
   * Maintain the `.csv` format (avoid `.xlsx`).
3. **Upload & Finalize**
   * Drag the completed file into the pop-up or navigate to it.
   * Confirm additional settings (usage limits, discount type, etc.).
   * **Import** to add these codes to your event.

***

### Tracking Usage & Reporting

1. **Unique Discount Links**
   * Each code has its own discount URL.
   * Share these with affiliates/influencers to track sales attributable to them.
   * For more robust affiliate tracking, consider using the [Affiliate Marketing Center](/docs/marketing/affiliate-marketing-center) which provides detailed attribution reports and QR codes.
2. **Usage Reports**
   * Click a promo code in the **Promo Codes** list to view:
     * **Number of redemptions** and **remaining uses**.
     * **Associated orders**: which customers used it, how many tickets were discounted, etc.
3. **Order Details**
   * Within each order, SimpleTix lists any applied promo code.
   * Cross-reference code usage in standard attendee or sales reports for deeper analytics.

## Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

**Q1: Can I apply a code to all my “fall concerts” at once?**

* **A:** Currently, promo codes apply only to **specific events** or **ticket types**. You can’t target an entire “event category” en masse.

**Q2: Where do I see which orders used a particular code?**

* **A:** Click on the code in the Promo Codes page. The details view shows all orders linked to that code.

**Q3: Why can’t I find the Bulk Create or Import options?**

* **A:** Bulk code generation is available on both the **event-specific Promo Codes** page and the **global Promo Codes** page. Click **More** to find the option. If still missing, contact [SimpleTix Support](mailto:support@simpletix.com) or check if your user role is restricted.

**Q4: How do I share a code so it applies automatically at checkout?**

* **A:** Copy the **unique discount link** from the code’s detail page and send it to your customers. That link pre-fills the code at checkout.

**Q5: Can I limit the discount to, say, only 2 tickets per order?**

* **A:** Yes. When creating or editing the promo code, set the **Tickets per Order** limit accordingly.
