Sort Order for seats is incremented by default by 1.  This means that the Sort Order is Synced.   In the Functions box, you will see two options for Sort Order:

  • Sync Sort Orderthis is the default, it means that sort order is set as 1,2,3,4 instead of 10,20,30,40.  This type of sort order must be used if you plan on using the "Find Best Available Seats" option.  Because the Sort Order is Synced, it is not possible to add a seat in between two others.
  • A Gap of 10 Between Sort Increments- Used to add a seat between two existing seats.  This gives you a gap of 10 between each seat.

To add a seat between two seats if the seats are in synced sort order, all you need to do is click the 'A Gap of 10 Between Sort Increments' and the chart will refresh with unsynced sort order.  Click the Add button to add a seat between two existing seats.  For Example, let's say we've forgotten to add Seat 15, and the list of seats looks like:

Row A, Seat 14, Sort Order 14
Row A, Seat 16, Sort Order 15
(Seat 15 has been forgotten)

You can change the sort order to the following by clicking the 'A Gap of 10 Between Sort Increments' option, and it will be:
Row A, Seat 14, Sort Order 140
Row A, Seat 16, Sort Order 150

Now, because there is a gap in the sort order, it is possible to add Seat 15 by clicking the Add button.
In the fields provided, define the seat as
Row A, Seat 15, Sort Order 145 (or any number between 140 and 150)

The new seat 15 will fall in between Seats 14 and 16 where it should be. To re-sync the seats, simply click the 'Sync Sort Order' link, and the seats will return to Synced order, but with Seat 15 now added:
Row A, Seat 14, Sort Order 14
Row A, Seat 15, Sort Order 15
Row A, Seat 16, Sort Order 16

Please Note, that when you re-sync the seats after having added a seat, it will erase ALL gaps created in the sort order.  For example, if you have defined a gap between Rows A and B such as:

Row A, Seat 16, Sort Order 16
Row B, Seat 1, Sort Order 20

When you re-sync the seats after having added a seat via the gap of 10 between sort increments, it will look like:

Row A, Seat 16, Sort Order 16
Row B, Seat 1, Sort Order 17

Depending on what kind of Display Mode you have selected for your Ticketing-by-Seat events, this may not matter.  See Article: Notes on Setting Up Search For Best Seats
